Elgin House Project: Setting the Standard in Modern Demolition

October 23, 2023

Over the past few weeks, our team has been working diligently at the Elgin House project,
pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks for eco-friendly and sustainable
demolition.

One of the notable developments on the site is the arrival of our high-reach excavator. A
beacon of our commitment to efficiency and safety, this machinery stands ready for
structural demolition, ensuring a streamlined process as we move forward.

Adhering to BREEAM Requirements

A cornerstone of this project’s waste removal strategy revolves around not just meeting but
exceeding the landfill benchmarks as set out in the BREEAM requirements. The guidelines
set by BREEAM require us to achieve a 90% benchmark for a single credit. However, we’re
pushing for excellence by aiming for the 95% mark, ensuring an exemplary rating.

Going Beyond Demolition: Sustainability in Action

During the soft strip phase, our team managed to salvage a whopping 10,192 raised floor
tiles. This act of responsible recycling allowed us to redirect these materials for reuse, in
collaboration with a supplier who recognized the value in what many would consider
“waste”.

To put this achievement into perspective, by salvaging these tiles, we’ve diverted
approximately 112 tonnes of material away from landfills. This feat not only stands as a
testament to our commitment to the environment but also emphasizes the paradigm shift
in how demolition projects can be approached in the 21st century.

In Conclusion

The progress at Elgin House exemplifies our dedication to innovation, sustainability, and
responsible practices. By redefining the standards of demolition, we hope to inspire and
lead the way for future projects, setting the precedent for how modern demolition can
coexist with eco-friendly initiatives.
